Microneedling is one of my favourite treatments to offer at Sorelle Aesthetics — and for good reason. Often called collagen induction therapy (CIT), it works like a gentle, targeted wake-up call for your skin. By creating tiny microchannels with the Dermapen 4, the skin is stimulated to repair itself, producing new collagen and elastin — the essential building blocks for smoother, firmer, and more radiant skin.

This treatment addresses a wide range of concerns including fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks, enlarged pores, uneven texture, and pigmentation. The best part? It’s a minimally invasive, largely painless procedure with impressive, long-lasting results.

As a skin specialist with a passion for corrective skincare, I often use microneedling after clearing a client’s active acne to heal and smooth any residual scarring or marks. It’s incredibly effective for treating indented scars as well as pigmentation issues like post-inflammatory erythema (PIE) and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). For clients struggling with uneven tone or dullness, I often combine microneedling with a stem cell brightening serum, needling it gently into the skin for enhanced absorption and glow.

Microneedling is also a brilliant anti-aging tool. Stimulating collagen and elastin production helps plump fine lines and rejuvenate skin texture. I always include the neck and work carefully around delicate areas like the eyes and mouth to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles — treating these zones with a softer touch.

How I tailor the treatment:

  • For thinner, more sensitive areas like the forehead, around the eyes, and mouth, I use needle depths between 0.25mm and 0.5mm. This reduces discomfort and minimises bruising.
  • For thicker skin on the cheeks and chin, depths range from 0.75mm to 1.5mm, adjusted based on skin thickness and patient comfort.

During treatment, I regularly check in to monitor comfort levels, especially around menstrual cycles, when skin sensitivity tends to increase. Scheduling sessions outside of this time helps keep the experience pleasant.

The goal during microneedling is to reach the clinical endpoint — which means seeing mild redness (erythema) and pinpoint bleeding. More bleeding isn’t better and only prolongs downtime unnecessarily. Clients taking omega oils or essential fatty acids may experience slightly more bleeding, but results remain consistent.

For optimal collagen regeneration, I recommend spacing treatments between three to six weeks apart, with my sweet spot being every three and a half weeks. This timing maximises collagen and elastin production for lasting skin renewal.

Microneedling with the Dermapen 4 is, without a doubt, one of the most powerful tools in my clinic. It delivers transformative results across multiple skin concerns, helping women feel confident and radiant in their skin — naturally and sustainably.

Microneedling with Dermapen 4 — FAQs

Q: Is microneedling painful?
Most clients describe the treatment as mildly uncomfortable rather than painful. I always apply a medical-grade numbing cream beforehand, and I adjust needle depth based on your skin’s sensitivity to keep the treatment as comfortable as possible.

Q: How many sessions will I need?
This varies based on your skin concerns, but I typically recommend a course of 3–6 treatments spaced 3.5–4 weeks apart for optimal results. We’ll always discuss your tailored plan during your consultation.

Q: Is there any downtime?
You may experience redness, warmth, and light flaking for 1–3 days after your treatment. It’s very normal and a sign that your skin is regenerating. Most clients return to daily activities within 24–48 hours.

Q: Can I wear makeup after?
You’ll need to avoid makeup for at least 24 hours post-treatment to allow your skin to heal properly and prevent irritation or infection.

✅ Protect your skin – SPF is essential, even on cloudy days, to prevent pigmentation.
✅ Keep it clean – use gentle cleansers and avoid touching your face unnecessarily.
✅ No gym, sauna, or swimming – for 24–48 hours to reduce the risk of irritation or infection.
